I’m comfortable using the word love. We know there are many kinds of love so it’s true when I say:
I love my husband
I love my daughter
I love my parents
I love my dog
I love my job
I love my church
I love Christmas
I love strawberries
I love watching films
I love Cliff Richard
I love bedtime
I love you – yes, you
I choose to love not hate, because Jesus taught us - in fact, more than that - he commanded us to love one another.
“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another.”
John 13:34 NKJV
Love is a doing word though, so some people might never say “I love you”, but show it through helping you, supporting you in little ways, reaching out to you, spending time with you, buying you a gift, praying with you and for you, or giving you a hug.
This bible verse from Zephaniah is one of my favourites. Read it slowly. Maybe read it a few times or look it up in different versions.
“The Lord your God in your midst, The Mighty One, will save;
He will rejoice over you with gladness,
He will quiet you with His love,
He will rejoice over you with singing.”
Zephaniah 3:17 NKJV
Love is mentioned and it also describes how God shows his love for you. He is with you wherever you go. He has given you Jesus your Saviour and given you salvation through his blood. He will calm your fears. You make God happy and he sings because of you! You make God sing with delight - wow!!
His love for you is so wonderful
Turn the verse into a prayer of thankfulness and spend some time being mindful of all the ways God has shown his love for you even over this period of Life-Light as we approach Christmas and celebrate the gift of Jesus born as Immanuel.
Lots of love to you and I hope you have a wonderful Christmas and a peace filled 2025.
