A prayer for the first week of Lent.

Lord, as we come into the season of Lent, help us to use this time to really focus on you and what you are saying to us. Help us to know that you love us and that you want good things in our lives. Thank you for choosing us, for being with us, for all your encouragement and love, and for the difference you make in each of our lives. May we feel your presence with us as we bring to you our prayers today.

Help us to find time in our busy lives to be with you. Take away the guilt we can feel when we stop to look around and know that time spent in your presence is time well spent.

May we find ways of accessing your word that really bring home your message to us and then new ways of communicating your love out to others. Give us the inspiration and encouragement we need to truly be your hands and feet in this world and follow your way in all we do.

Help us to know your will, to be patient but persistent in prayer, to follow where you lead and to be inspired to learn all you want us yet to know.

Let’s pause for a moment and offer our own individual prayers for those we know and are concerned about and those we will never know, but our concern is no less.

Use this space to bring your own prayers to God, being sure and certain that he hears and answers prayer.

Take a moment or two to breathe and to pray as we listen out for God’s voice and hear what he wants to say to us today.

May this Lent be a time for us to grow closer to you. As we will see the buds appearing on the plants in our gardens, may we also see the blossom in our relationship with you.

In Jesus’ name, our Lord, Saviour, Redeemer and Friend, we ask all our prayers. Amen
