Day 52 - Lectio Divina for Friday 5 April 2024

Writer: Congregational FederationCongregational Federation

5 Steps of Lectio Divina

1. Reading. Read a passage slowly and carefully within the Bible. What words or phrases strike you, stand out or emerge from the text?

2. Meditation. Thinking deeply or dwelling upon a spiritual reality within a text. What is God saying to you in your life?

3. Prayer. Having a loving conversation with God.

4. Contemplation. Resting in God's presence.

5. Action. Go and do likewise.

1. John 20:19-23: Jesus appears to his disciples

On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jewish leaders, Jesus came and stood among them and said, ‘Peace be with you!’ After he said this, he showed them his hands and side. The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord.

Again Jesus said, ‘Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.’ And with that he breathed on them and said, ‘Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive anyone’s sins, their sins are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven.’

2. Jesus stood among his disciples and said, “Peace be with you!” Do we always recognise that peace in our lives? How does it manifest itself? Are you able to share it with others?

3. Gracious God, we thank you for our lives, we give you praise for your abundant mercy and grace that we receive. Lord Jesus, we ask you to give us peace in our mind, body, soul and spirit. We want you to heal and remove everything that is causing stress, grief, and sorrow in our lives. Guide our path through life and let your peace reign in our lives. Amen.

4. Take a moment to hear what God is saying to you. To know where he is guiding you today. Find a piece of music, or a book to read, or a museum to visit, or a film to watch that will take you further into the theme of peace.

5. Who, and how, will you bring ‘peace’ to today?
