Day 94 - A Secluded Place

Writer: Congregational FederationCongregational Federation

A week ago the Congregational Federation National Assembly was just beginning a weekend of busyness – meetings, sessions, events, church services and much more. It was good for old friendships to be rekindled, and new friendships made. At the heart of our gathering, people who were from vastly different backgrounds and traditions were united in faith, hope and love. And amidst all the noise and bustle and excitement, it was great to have prayer at the centre of it all.

A week later, it’s nice to withdraw from the noise and the commotion of our busy lives to find a quiet place to pray. Finding that ‘secluded place’ can be a challenge and yet can be a profound act of devotion. In that place we can find solace and a deeper connection with God, offering prayers for each other and our churches, and for the many issues that plague humanity. Let us take a moment to pray for our world, to pray for our churches and communities, and to pray for each other.

Gracious God, we come before you with humble hearts, seeking your divine peace in our troubled world. Calm the storms of conflict and heal the wounds of division. Grant wisdom to our leaders, compassion to our people, and strength to those who work tirelessly for justice. May your love guide us towards unity and understanding, so that we may live in harmony and peace.

We pray for the cities, towns and villages where we live, lifting our communities up to you, asking for your blessings and guidance. Fill our hearts with kindness, understanding, and compassion to reach out with your good news message. Help us to support one another, to care for those in need, and to build bonds of trust and friendship. May your love and light shine through us and your churches, creating strong, vibrant, and harmonious places to live and work.

We pray for our children and young people, especially for those facing important exams at this time. We pray for homes and families, schools and colleges, that they be places of safety and care. Shield our children and young people from harm and guide them through life’s challenges. Fill their hearts with courage, hope, and wisdom. Help them to grow in confidence, to discover their unique gifts, and to pursue their dreams with determination and faith. Surround them with love and support, and let them feel Your presence in every step they take.

We rejoice over the many stories of hope to be found in our Congregational Churches. We pray that we all may be bold and confident in our faith so that our churches are welcoming and accepting communities, proclaiming your grace at work in our lives. So we lift up all the churches of the Congregational Federation to you, asking for your blessings and guidance. Help our churches to be beacons of hope, love and compassion, and guide our leaders and congregations to act with wisdom and grace.

Gracious God, bring hope and healing to our lives, that we may be a light to the world. Fill our hearts with peace and joy, and help us to walk in your ways each day. Amen.
