Day 20 - Battles and Blessings

Writer: Congregational FederationCongregational Federation

At the moment, the Monday afternoon CF bible study is working through the book of Numbers! I think it’s fair to say we are enjoying the reading and God is speaking to us through it in surprising ways. Ultimately the book highlights our failures, but God assures us that He never gives up on us.

On this Mindfulness Monday I want to encourage you to read Numbers 13: 17-27. Read it a few times and reflect on what stands out for you in the text.

For me it was the contrast in stories when they returned. Some focussed on the positive and shared about how wonderful it was telling about the grapes being so big that it took two people to carry a cluster. While some focussed on the negative saying the people were giants, too strong and powerful.

On reflection, isn’t that life? Our lives can be full of blessings, good things, good friends, fun and joy. Yet in contrast we can (even in the same day) face challenges, problems, pain and suffering.

Life is a mixture of the two - blessings and battles - but God is there with us in both. Let’s take some time today to reflect on the blessings and battles we are facing at the moment. You might even want to think about them in relation to your church or the world.

Praise and thank God for those blessings. Maybe eat some grapes as you do. Then talk to God about those battles. What are your fears and doubts? Let God minister to you as you give your battles to him and remember he fights for you.

“Don’t be afraid. Just stand still and watch the Lord rescue you today!” Exodus 14v13

God of the wilderness, You lead me to where I am lost and found again. As I journey towards Easter and the cross, I welcome Your Spirit and listen for Your word in the wild. Where You lead, I will follow. Amen.

Prayer taken from the Lectio 365.
