Day 72 - Goodness of God

One of my favourite song writers, and performers, is Don Moen. He is an American singer-songwriter, pastor, and producer of Christian worship music. An individual who loves his music and has the amazing gift that God has given him not only to write but also take other material and place his own stamp on the song. Whilst I enjoy all of his music and recordings, the song which has recently had an impact on me is one called the Goodness of God. The song was originally written by Ben Fielding, Brian Johnson, Ed Cash, Jason Ingram and Jenn Johnson, and speaks about the love a person has for God and what he has done for them. The words of the first verse express this with the declaration:

I love You Lord, Oh Your mercy never fails me,

All my days I've been held in Your hands,

From the moment that I wake up

Until I lay my head, I will sing of the goodness of God.

Moving on to the chorus where the thoughts and feelings are continued:

All my life You have been faithful,

All my life You have been so, so good,

With every breath that I am able,

I will sing of the goodness of God.

The work Don Moen and his team have put into this song is simply amazing, with Don on keyboard and harmonies, Rachel Robinson taking lead vocal, Tom Lane playing Acoustic Guitar and providing harmonies. The harmonies in the chorus are so beautifully deep and rich, to me this is one of the best versions of the song.

However, the song is a reminder to each of us that the love God has for us is immeasurable and no matter what happens in our lives, the circumstances we find ourselves in, the situations that cause us fear, God is there for us. It has been mentioned many times before, that God uses music in so many ways to convict, to convert and bring a calming and a complete peace to what can be troubling us.

We read in Philippians 4: 7 about this where Paul says:

And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

That to me is the strength of the goodness of God. The song writers go on to say:

I love Your voice

You have led me through the fire

In the darkest night

You are close like no other

I've known You as a Father

I've known You as a Friend

And I have lived in the goodness of God

I find it fascinating that the creator of the world, the one who made every living thing, allows us as individuals to come into his awesome presence and call him Father and he accepts us just as we are, no questions asked. Before we go full blast into another day, have a listen to the song and you’ll find it will be with you all day.
