Yesterday was UK Spring Budget Day and I wonder how you have been affected by what has been announced. Were there any surprises revealed in what the Chancellor said – or had we already heard it all?
I remember, what seems like only a short while ago, when there were pictures of the Chancellor leaving Number 11 Downing Street with the red case in hand and no one except the Chancellor and the closest advisors seemed to know what was going to be said, what the plans would be and how the announcements would affect the British people. It seems now that the contents of his speech are drip fed to us for days before the “big event” and speculated, analysed and discussed before we have even heard it from the “horse’s mouth”, so to speak.
I was thinking why this might have happened and wondered if one of the reasons was trust. Maybe the politicians no longer trust us to be able to absorb all the information that they will give all at once? Or perhaps our trust of politicians is such that we don’t always trust what they say the first time they say it – so they feel we need to hear it multiple times to get it?
But for us as a Christian people, even though we sometimes find it hard to trust in politicians, we know we have something much more stable that we can fully trust in. We know that we can trust in God our Father in all things. In Jeremiah 29:11 we read “For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.”
This verse always speaks to me and I know it speaks to others too. It reminds us that whatever we face, whatever worries and concerns we have, God knows what his plan for each of us is and if we trust him for our future, we will know his love and grace in all we do. That is certainly something worth announcing on a daily basis!
So, however you have been affected by yesterday’s announcements, don’t lose hope for our God goes before us, offering us hope and light and love for all our futures!
Dear Lord, thank you that you know what is in our futures and that we can look forward in hope to what you have planned for us. Help us to trust you for all that we need and to always listen to you and follow where you lead. Amen
