Day 22 - The wonder of it all

I give you thanks, O Lord, with all my heart; I will sing your praises before the gods. I bow before your holy Temple as I worship. I praise your name for your unfailing love and faithfulness; for your promises are backed by all the honour of your name.

Psalm 138:1-2 (NLT)

I’ve always been interested in creation in one way or another, watching how nature changes with the different seasons. There’s something about the outdoors that gets our blood flowing smoother and our heart beating stronger. Albert Einstein once wrote: “Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better.” How true that is!

One of the greatest experiences I ever had was some years ago whilst attending a weekend conference in Glasgow that was connected with Young Enterprise. Early on the Sunday morning, I went to explore the hotel where we were before the bustle of the day. On entering the conference room I had the privilege of joining 3 amazing gentlemen at one of the tables. The first was Sir Tom Farmer of Kwik Fit fame, the second was Martin Lewis, the then anchorman for BBC News; he was talking about his collection of cats for which there were many. The third gentleman - an American, asked if he could show us his holiday slides, they are interesting, taken from a flying machine. At 6 o’clock on a Sunday morning maybe not, that was until I realised the person was Neil Armstrong the astronaut, and the pictures he had, were taken from the window of the Apollo 11 Lunar Module. Looking down on the universe you saw another aspect of creation. One of the most prominent things was to see the Great Wall of China from all those miles up in the air. It can be quite awe inspiring to note that the God who created all of this, is interested in us as individuals.

When Royalty comes to town, those organising the visit will practice bowing or curtsying just in case they stop to speak where they are. On this Sunday morning as we prepare and gather in Church or at a service online, let us remind ourselves that the great architect of the universe whom we have come to worship, allows us to come into His presence - warts and all - and call Him our Father.

Peter hits the nail on the head when he comes away with: “Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy.” (1 Peter 1:8)

I feel a song coming on by George Beverly Shea, The Wonder of it all:

There's the wonder of sunset at evening,

The wonder as sunrise I see;

But the wonder of wonders that thrills my soul

Is the wonder that God loves me.

O, the wonder of it all! The wonder of it all!

Just to think that God loves me.

O, the wonder of it all! The wonder of it all!

Just to think that God loves me.

There's the wonder of springtime and harvest,

The sky, the stars, and the sun;

But the wonder of wonders that thrills my soul

Is a wonder that's just begun.

Prayer:

Lord, Jesus, today is Your day, we give you thanks and praise. Teach me your ways, so, whatever happens, hold my hand so we can face it all together. In Jesus name. Amen.
