Day Forty Eight - Still in control

My daughter Poppy and I have been working through the new Advent reflections book called “The Adventure of Christmas” by Ed Drew. Last night we talked about power and who holds the power in our lives and in the Christmas story.

At the time of the birth of Jesus the most powerful man was Caesar Augustus - he ordered a census and everyone had to go and register. The thing was, it was all part of God’s plan and even though the power on earth belonged to Caesar God still had full control. I’m sure Mary and Joseph weren’t very happy about having to travel all that way to Bethlehem but it was where God wanted them.

Even when things aren’t as we hoped or planned we must remember God is still in control and his plans are being fulfilled even though it may feel someone else has the power.

Let’s pray

Lord Jesus,

We pray for those in positions of power. We pray especially for world leaders - we pray wisdom upon them and pray they strive for peace and justice in all they do.

We pray for the UK Governments, Politicians and local leaders. We pray protection over them and integrity in the way they lead their lives and the responsibilities they have. We pray you will call more Christians into these roles so Godly men and women are in positions of power.

We pray for people who abuse their power that they will change their ways and be humble.

We pray for all those who are trapped, hurting or in difficult situations because of the abuse of power and we pray protection, healing and freedom for them.

We pray for those that work at trying to stop human trafficking. Give them the resources and power they need to help people escape and live a new life.

We pray for the police, that they are skilled and encouraged in the roles they do in our communities.

We pray for all on the accredited roll of ministries and those in leadership roles in our churches - we pray you will speak to their hearts, open their hearts and minds to you, give them a fresh approach to their ministry, give them vision and wisdom and put your divine protection on them and their families.

We praise you Father for this advent season, we thank you for all those who step up and help others, we thank you for the communities in which we live, we thank you for our churches and we thank you for Jesus.

Amen
