ABOUT

Welcome! Whoever you are, wherever you are from, and whatever stage of life you’re in, you, are welcome at Ide Congregational Church. We are a small friendly chapel with members and friends coming from Ide and
across Devon. We come together to worship and support each other on our Spiritual Journeys with Jesus Christ.
As a Congregational Church we are led and governed by our membership by the decisions of our Church meeting where everyone has a voice. We are members of  the Congregational Federation based in Nottingham. As Congregationalists we do not subscribe to set Creeds and beliefs, so our members come from a range of Christian standpoints and expressions, so you are
free to go on your own Spiritual journey. But all of us are united in a faith journey with Jesus.

We were formed in 1883 and since then it has remained at the centre of life in Ide. The ground for the chapel was purchased by John Webber who also contributed to the building costs. Alongside him Edwin Voysey was a founding member. Whilst being shipwrecked he prayed to God that if he was saved, he would change his ways and become a Christian, so on his return he did just that and became one of the preachers with all his children attending the chapel. Today one of his great grandchildren Stephen Voysey still serves as our treasurer, with his children and
grandchildren also attending chapel. Today we are made up of people from the village and travelling from across Devon.

Whether life is plain sailing just now or you feel you are being shipwrecked like Edwin Voysey, we hope you will pay us a visit soon.

On the following pages you will find out about the main activities of the chapel and its worth looking at our Facebook page to see what we are up to and the up-to-date activities of what’s happening now.
