Scripture Reading: John 20:24–29

Eight days after the resurrection of Jesus, the disciples were gathered again behind closed doors. The excitement of the empty tomb had begun to settle, yet uncertainty still lingered in their hearts. Among them was Thomas the Apostle, who had not been present when Jesus first appeared.

Thomas carried a burden many of us understand—he could not simply accept what others had experienced. He needed to see for himself. He said, “Unless I see the nail marks in His hands and put my finger where the nails were… I will not believe” (John 20:25).

The Presence of Jesus in Our Doubt

Then came that powerful moment described in John 20:26–27. Though the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!”

This greeting was a gift, not a formal greeting.

A gift to fearful hearts.

A gift to questioning minds.

A gift to Thomas.

Jesus did not reject Thomas for his doubt. Instead, He invited him closer: “Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe.”

What grace.

What patience.

What love.

This passage reminds us of several powerful truths:

1. Jesus Meets Us Where We Are

Thomas was not excluded because of his doubt. Jesus came specifically for him. Likewise, Christ meets us in our uncertainties, fears, and unanswered questions.

2. Doubt Can Lead to Deeper Faith

Thomas’ honest struggle led to one of the clearest declarations of faith in Scripture:

“My Lord and my God!” (John 20:28)

Faith that has wrestled is often deeply rooted.

3. Peace Is Found in His Presence

Before addressing doubt, Jesus speaks peace. His presence calms the troubled heart before it answers the questioning mind.

4. Blessed Are Those Who Believe

Jesus concludes with a blessing for future believers:

“Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed” (John 20:29).

This is where we stand today — invited into faith, even without physical sight.

Living the Message Today

Eight days after the resurrection, the miracle was no longer just the empty tomb—it was the living presence of Jesus among His people.

For us today:

• When we feel uncertain, Jesus still comes.

• When we struggle to believe, Jesus still invites.

• When we are afraid, Jesus still speaks peace.

Faith is not about having no doubts — it is about bringing those doubts to Christ.

Heavenly Father, thank You for the risen Christ, who comes to us not only in our faith but also in our doubts. Thank You that You do not turn away from our questions, but gently invite us to draw closer to You. Lord, like Thomas, we sometimes struggle to believe fully. Help us to trust You even when we cannot see. Fill our hearts with Your peace, and strengthen our faith day by day. May we declare with confidence, “My Lord and my God,” and live as witnesses of Your resurrection power. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
