The constant comfort I have in my life is knowing God’s presence with me – but the reality of it stemmed from when I was 18 and I travelled on my own to Australia but knew God was with me. Today’s reflection is based round this worship song Turn your eyes upon Jesus which has helped me be assured of this truth.
I remember buying this song on a record as a young teenager - it was the first piece of Christian music I bought and listened to outside of church. I remember listening to it over and over again as I found it profoundly moving and it certainly had an impact on my relationship with Jesus. Now my faith has developed and I’m much older it is still such a powerful song and one I don’t think we hear very often anymore but one we would be wise to keep on our playlists!
I heard it recently on Premier Praise radio and once again found myself worshipping with a sincerity that touched my soul.
The reason I have chosen it today is because of how it has come back to me - not only through the radio but also through a conversation with Annette Dickinson, the North West Area children’s area worker. She used it at the beginning of worship to help people focus on Jesus when often our mind is focussed on something else.
When things in our lives get tough, when we are weary or feeling fed up, lonely or stressed, this song encourages us to turn our eyes upon Jesus.
When we are frightened, confused or needing wisdom this song encourages us to turn our eyes upon Jesus.
When we need peace, reassurance or love, turning our eyes to Jesus will give us love we cannot measure and have a peace beyond understanding.
Look full in his wonderful face,
And the things of earth will become strangely dim
in the light of his glory and grace.
My prayer for you today is that however you feel you will know you can turn your eyes to Jesus and he will bless you, comfort you, cheer you and heal you.
