Day Seventy Four - O Let the Son of God Enfold You

O Let the Son of God Enfold You

With His Spirit and His Love

Let Him fill your heart and satisfy your soul

O let Him have the things that hold you

And His Spirit like a dove

Will descend upon your life and make you whole.

Jesus, O Jesus

Come and fill your lambs

Jesus O Jesus

Come and fill your lambs

O come and sing this song with gladness

As your hearts are filled with joy

Lift your hands in sweet surrender to His name

O give Him all your tears and sadness

Give Him all your years of pain

And you’ll enter into life in Jesus’ name.

This lovely worship song was written by John Wimber in 1979 and is sometimes known as the Spirit Song, a wholly appropriate song for this time in our Christian calendar, between Easter and Pentecost.

The chorus has references to the exchange between Jesus and Peter as they sat by the shores of Galilee, not long after the first Easter Sunday (John 21 v15). Jesus asks Peter if he loves Him and if so to go out and feed His sheep. In the chorus of this song, we ask Jesus to come and fill us, His lambs.

I like the song for the first two lines: O let the Son of God Enfold you with His Spirit and His Love - a reference to the coming Holy Spirit. One word, in particular, stands out to me, the word, Enfold. It reminds me of how I used to scoop up my children when they were young and were upset or needed assurance and sat them on my knee and put my arms around them. I looked up the definition of enfold in the dictionary, it said, to envelop, swathe, cocoon or embrace. To hold or clasp someone lovingly in one’s arms.

How wonderful to be reminded through this song that our Lord Jesus Christ will lovingly hold and embrace us in His arms with His never-ending love and that He is also sending His Spirit to descend upon our lives and make us whole.

In this last year the whole world has seen major changes, our lives have been turned upside down. We may have had times when we have felt lonely and isolated and missed the hugs of our family and friends, so it is amazing to think that Jesus is with us all the time enfolding us in His arms, loving and caring for us. There are no restrictions for Jesus’ love.

And now as restrictions are beginning to be lifted here in the United Kingdom, some maybe are feeling a little anxious about resuming a more normal way of life, then let us remember that God sent his Holy Spirit to help and guide us in our day-to-day life.

It is wonderful to know that wherever or whatever we are doing that Jesus has His arms around us. So, let him fill our hearts, satisfy our souls, and descend upon our lives and make us whole.
