Happy Thanksgiving to all our American Friends!
Last month, my husband and I, our children, their spouses and our six grandchildren enjoyed a special holiday in New York. The shops and restaurants were already geared up for the coming holiday, offering everything from jewelry and Lego to pies and cheesecake all with a Thanksgiving theme.
The heart of the Thanksgiving holiday is to say thank you for the blessings of the past year and to share food and fellowship with friends and family.
This got me thinking. How thankful are we to God for all that he has done for us? How many times do we remember to say thank you?
Let us stop today and for a few moments reflect on this.
It is easy to thank God when life is rosy and going well for us. But it is also very easy to focus on the struggles we face, a bad day at the office or at home, ill health, our social situations, we can get down and depressed, frustrated or even angry. Let us challenge ourselves to look beyond the crosses and burdens we face each day to see the abundance of grace, mercy and love given to us by our Lord and then still give thanks.
God loved us so much that he sent his son, Jesus Christ to atone for our sins. When we had no hope of eternal life God sent Jesus to provide eternal life through His sacrificial death. He gave us His Holy Spirit to guide us and lean upon. We can be thankful that our God is an approachable God, and we can come to him anytime with our concerns and problems.
Today, let us count our many blessings both big and small. Let us acknowledge the love, support and opportunities that have graced our lives. Let us truly give thanks to our Lord God Almighty for all that he has done and continues to do for us each and every day without fail.
Do not be anxious about anything but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God - Philippians 4v6.
