Do you cram too much into a day? There are times in life when there just aren’t enough hours in the day to get through it all! Often during these times of busyness, we can easily ignore the true beauty of God’s creation and forget that He is our creator as it says in scripture right at the beginning of time.
“In the beginning when God created the universe” - Genesis 1:1
All around us is infinite beauty if only we pause for long enough to appreciate it. Our world is an abundance of colour and natural wonder - new life and the first buds of spring, an abundance of flowers and insects at the height of summer, the beautiful shades of the autumn leaves and the crispness of snow in winter, for those of us who experience it these days with global warming looming.
For me, there is nothing so special as the firsts of each season, and I love nothing more than a walk on a crisp sunny morning, when I can enjoy the peace and tranquillity as I walk my dog.
Recently after a particularly busy and stressful few days I needed reminding of God’s infinite ability to create the most marvellous of things. Then a few days later, during a social afternoon at our church we sat to enjoy a simple craft, making colourful flower decorations using a variety of coloured cake cases, normally used for baking. As we began there were cries of ‘I’m hopeless at crafts’ and ‘I’m all fingers and thumbs.’ The concentration in the room was tangible and very quickly the flowers took shape. Each person created a beautiful flower, each unique depending on the cake cases used. Isn’t God’s creation wonderful! Even the simplest of things can be turned into something fantastic.
In a world where everything is Hi-tech we can dismiss and even forget the simplest of things and how much pleasure they can bring us. God is good!
Often, we forget that not only does God provide us with the resources we need but He helps us, gives us the know-how and the skills to carry them through.
Sometimes we question life and seek answers that seem unanswerable. But remember that God knows the answers and He knows what is best for us too.
“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future”. Jeremiah 29:11
All we must do is trust Him! Easy to say but not always easy to carry through.
As we approach Advent and the monumental events that we celebrate each year our thoughts turn to the lead up and subsequent birth of Jesus, in the most simplest of surroundings, and our thoughts turn to Mary as she prepared to give birth, and we wonder how she must have felt when God said she was to bring a child into the world that was going to be the greatest of all. She must have felt unprepared, even ill equipped to carry out God’s plan. But God reassured her and gave her what she needed to fulfil His wishes. He is our creator. Alleluia! Praise the Lord.
