Love came down at Christmas,

Love all lovely, Love divine,

Love was born at Christmas,

Star and angels gave the sign.

Worship we the Godhead

Love incarnate, Love divine,

Worship we our Jesus,

but wherewith for sacred sign?

Love shall be our token,

Love be yours and love be mine,

Love to God and others,

Love for plea and gift and sign.

(Christina Rossetti)

In contrast to the bright busyness of the season, the simple words of this poem reflect the purity and simplicity of the message of God's love at Christmas. It says that perhaps our response to the gift of love given could be for us to be part of the sharing of God's love to the world.

After the long period of preparation and waiting Christmas Day is almost with us. Looking back over Advent and the weeks of Life-Light daily reflections we have thought about Forgiveness, Creation, Justice, Thankfulness, Hope, Peace, Joy and Love. Did you find anything challenging or were you encouraged by something? How can we share more of God's love in the world?

Hold onto those memorable thoughts and insights you had, just like Mary when she reflected deeply on the events surrounding Jesus' birth (Luke 2:19). Mindfulness uses all our senses, so perhaps sit by the twinkling lights of the tree with carols (or the song chosen for today) playing in the background, light a scented candle, mug in hand and take a moment with the sights, sounds and scents in this quiet place.

We could invite the Holy Spirit to reveal how He has been working in our lives and then mull over the light revealing our next step as we move forward into 2026. Whether Christmas will be “all is calm” or “all is bright”, spent with loved ones or not, may we find joy, peace and hope as we celebrate Jesus, our Saviour.

Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year!

A Prayer:

Dear Lord, show us ways we can put Your love into action. May we see opportunities to help others, to be generous, kind & forgiving. Open our eyes and ears and help us to see people's need and be willing to offer words of hope and love to encourage others. Wherever you have placed us may we be a light that illuminates the pathway to Jesus. Amen.
