For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Isaiah 9:6

This time of year, the shops are full of ‘Christmas’ – toys, games, clothing, partywear, gift ideas, party food and carols playing as we shop. Christmas markets, craft fairs and events just seem to bamboozle us at every turn, wanting us to spend our hard-earned cash in their shops and markets.
And then in our own homes we all have them, well I’m guessing most of us do, a Christmas tree adorned with pretty decorations, tinsel, lights and baubles of all shapes, sizes and colours.
I buy or make a new tree decoration every year for each of my children, usually it has their name and year on it too, and as my family grow so do the decorations. I love looking at and exploring the different options that are out there and I get real pleasure from making my own. It’s lovely to look back on them, year after year, as they go on the tree.
But what do you do with those old, tired baubles that no longer fit in with the colour scheme you are planning on for this year. Do you throw them away? Recycle them? Or still put them on your tree because they hold a special memory and you just can’t bear to throw them away.
Here is a suggestion, and one that I have done successfully with my church in the past, and that’s BAUBLICIOUS.
What is Baublicious?
When does a new or tired old, scratched unloved Bauble become Baublicious?
When it’s made with love. When it’s shared around your town or village. When it has a label attached that says, ‘take me home and put me on your tree’. When it invites people to come to your church over the Christmas period.
This project is suitable for all ages – from toddlers right through to the more senior members of the church, creating such a variety of colour, pattern and designs.
Let this be one of your Christmas projects this year, share the love and joy, have fun and laughter, let the different generations in your churches work together as you create and make your own baubles, add your own message. Each one will be special – unique.
Bless them in your church and then let them bless the community around you as you hang them outside your building, in parks, on trees and on railings.
Enjoy and have fun as you work on this amazing intergenerational friendly project in your own church.
We would love to see your photos.
