Day 16 - Mobile Phone Versus the Bible

Occasionally, you hear or read something so good, you must share it. That happened today when a lady shared the following words and prayer, which she wrote 20 years ago. Before you say, “That’s not topical,” take a moment, relax, and read the words. I would argue this is even more topical today than it was 20 years ago. And if any of you remain sceptical on the timeline, remember that bible passages quoted in ASecludedPlace are probably even older.
[N.B. – Some of the text is similar to text found on Tony Cooke Ministries, which cites the author as unknown. Also, I have changed some of the text to modern English usage.]
As you can see, I have my bible and my cell phone in front of me. I am not going to read a passage from the Bible this afternoon.
I am going to give you something to ponder on.
Have you ever wondered what would happen if we treated our bible like our cell phone?
What if we carried it around in our purses or pockets.
What if we flipped through it several times a day.
What if we turned back to get it if we forgot it.
What if we used it to receive messages from the text.
What if we treated it like we could not live without it.
What if we gave it to children as gifts.
What if we used it when we travelled.
What if we used it in case of emergency.
[For those who maintain their bible as a mobile app, how often do you use it as indicated above?]
This is something to make us go ...hmm... where is my bible?
One more thing. Unlike our mobile phone, we do not have to worry about our bible being disconnected because Jesus has already paid the bill.
Makes you stop and think, what are our priorities. Just a thought. I wonder if we turned back to basics and trusted in the Lord’s words would the world be a better place. I hope so but I do not have the answer. Do you?
Let us pray...
Father, we thank you for bringing us safely together today. We ask that you give us wisdom and guidance for the work in our church.
How best can we serve you, Lord, in our everyday living? We tend to look around us in our familiar situations; in our town, city, or village life and become afraid, fearful of what we see.
The world on our doorstep and further afield seems to be deteriorating and dark clouds descend to blot out any light on the horizon. Like the Old Testament King we enquire, “Is there any word from the Lord.”
Stir us up, Lord, so that we will look up, look around and see the sky that will not fail no matter how often the dark clouds form there is always light behind them.
Give us a push, Lord, when our spirits as well as our feet stop moving. You are still Lord and that can never change. Your word will ever stand. Let us ever praise it. Amen
