Today we enjoy another bank holiday. With Easter falling late this year, we seem to have had so many bank holidays in a short space of time, but today is the last one until, for those in England and Wales, 25th August. Readers in Scotland will not have quite so long to wait, as their next bank holiday is on August 4th.
So how are you spending today? Maybe you will spend it with family or friends? Perhaps you are planning a trip to the coast, or a walk round a stately home or beautiful garden? Maybe a meal out or (weather dependant) a barbeque at home? A drink in a beer garden or just a snooze on the sofa as we pretend to watch the afternoon film on the TV!
However you will spend the day, I do hope you will be able to make the most of the time.
Jesus said he had come to give us a life to live to the full (John 10:10). This is one of my favourite verses in the bible. It always reminds me that the importance of eternal life is that it starts in the here and now. We can't just wait for the future we need to live the life we have so that we can bring glory to God in all we are and all we do. We are tasked to be mindful of living every moment in praise of him who created us, and to make the most of what we have, through our worship and service, our love and sharing, our faith and our hope for the future.
Let's be mindful this day, and every day, of the opportunities we are given, the people around us, the things we can say “Yes” to. For in Jesus, we really can make the most of our time, every day. Praise him for that!
On a personal note we will be spending the bank holiday waiting for a message to tell us that Harry is on the way back up the motorway following an Air Cadet trip to Belgium – although that is most likely to come overnight into Tuesday… a late night/early morning in the Booton household is expected…
