I invite you to share in a time of prayer today, influenced by events that happened on this day in history! Please add your own thoughts and prayers to the following ...
On this day in 1814, during the Napoleonic wars, Napoleon was facing an invasion of France by forces bent on his overthrow and abdicated unconditionally at Fontainebleau.
We remember the delicate balance of power in our world today ... with economic uncertainty caused by fluctuating tariffs and with tension in many places because of conflict and war.
Gracious God, we pray for peace and stability in our world. May leaders and those in power seek wisdom and understanding in their decisions. We ask for protection over those affected by conflict and for hearts to be open to reconciliation and compassion.
On this day in 2007 American author Kurt Vonnegut, who was noted for such wryly satirical novels as Slaughterhouse-Five, died at age 84.
We remember all those who grieve.
Gracious God, we lift up all who are grieving today, mourning the loss of loved ones. We ask for your comforting presence to surround them during this difficult time. May they find solace in your embrace and strength to face each day. Let their memories be filled with love and their hearts be eased by the support of those around them. Grant them peace and healing, and the assurance that they are not alone.
On this day in 1755 James Parkinson, the English physician who discovered Parkinson's disease, was born.
We pray for those struggling with their health, and for all those who care for us.
Gracious God, we thank you for the advancements in science and medicine that have brought healing and hope to so many. We ask for your guidance and inspiration to be with researchers, doctors, and caregivers who work tirelessly to find cures and improve treatments. Grant them wisdom, perseverance, and breakthroughs in their work. May their work bring healing and recovery to those in need.
On this day in 1970, Apollo 13 was launched from Cape Canaveral in Florida.
We are thankful for advancements in our knowledge and our pursuit of higher ideals.
Gracious God, we lift up our hearts in gratitude for the spirit of discovery that drives humanity forward. We are reminded of the courage and resilience of those who dare to push the boundaries of exploration and knowledge. We pray that in all our efforts to move forward we may praise you as the Creator and Sustainer of all.
On this day in 1936 Billy Butlin opened his first holiday camp at Skegness.
And Spring Harvest is leading the Church in Easter praise and teaching there this week.
Gracious God, we pray that glad Hosanna’s may sound from our lips this Easter, as we journey with you and feel your pain and suffering. Humbly we thank you for your sacrifice, for your unconditional love for each one of us. In the spirit of resurrection joy, we praise you and give you all the glory for all that you have done for us. In the beautiful name of Jesus we pray.
Amen. Amen. Amen.
